Leadership Philosophy

Creating benchmarks for leadership and management development is vital to every organization today. The practice of substituting strong personalities or positive characteristics for true leadership and management capacity has caused many industries, including construction, to underperform its’ potential. Legacy practices that have no relevance or potential to add to the bottom line still exist as remnants of the industries we once were. The professionalization of leadership and management, along with the commensurate investment of time and talent, is the key to organizational growth and profit.

Leadership and management must be seen as evolving skill sets that should be introduced at the outset of someone’s career and managed closely as they rise. In doing this it influences everyone’s individual values and forms the organizational expectations on how people are to be managed, motivated and mentored.

Leaders and managers still need to be driven and motivated to create superior results, but the manner in which they do so must be in service of the organization and its’ employees, not for themselves. Financial, social and emotional intelligence must combine. Goal setting, time management and process improvement are small examples of the disciplines needed in today’s challenging environment. But perhaps most important is their commitment to self improvement. High performing organizations must instill this above all as an engine of opportunity and requirement of leadership responsibility. With this must also come the transparent accountability of leadership action for no matter how high anyone rises, they too must see themselves clearly as the leaders and managers they are, not the ones they want to be.
